Mercatale
Mercatale is our nearest village and the place to visit for basic shopping, bars, petrol, banks.

Umbertide
A prosperous small town to the east in the Tiber valley. There is a walk along the river, an octagonal church and “la Rocca” a castle now an art gallery plus many basic shops including a bookshop selling maps and books in English. There is a large weekly market.

Castel Rigone
Castel Rigone is beyond Preggio, or via Lisciano Niccone: both lovely drives. This little village has bars and views of the lake.

Pierle
Just beyond Mercatale is this imposing ruined castle with a small cluster of red topped houses at its foot.

Reschio
This is an extensive private development but there are quiet walks through the woods.

Preggio
On the opposite hillside is this pretty hill-top village which has 360 degree views, a bar and restaurant. There is a music festival in July and a well supported chestnut celebration in October.
